What does the System node do?

The System node performs an action inside Simployer One as part of your automation.

Where the Task node and the Notification node ask a person to do something, the System node has Simployer One do it directly.

When should I use the System node?

• Onboarding a team member. The automation starts an onboarding workflow for an employee.
• Offboarding. The automation starts the standard offboarding workflow when an employment ending is registered.

What settings does the System node have?

• Action: Which action to perform. The available actions are defined by Simployer, not configured by you. In the first version of Automation Studio, there is only one action available: running a workflow template.
• Action details: Each action asks for what it needs.

What happens when a System node runs?

The action is carried out against the employee the run belongs to, immediately, using their record as it is at that moment. The change is real: it is the same as an admin making it by hand.

The action is recorded in the run history, so you can see afterwards exactly what was triggered and when.

Important: If the action cannot be completed — for example, a required field is missing or a value is not valid — the System node fails, the failure is recorded in the run history, and the automation stops there. Later nodes do not run.

What are common mistakes and limitations with the System node?

• Changes are real and immediate. There is no approval step and no confirmation. Test the automation before activating it, and start with a narrow scope.
• A System node action cannot be undone by pausing the automation. Pausing stops future runs; it does not reverse changes already made. Reversing a change means correcting the records by hand.
• A failure stops the run. If a System node fails halfway through an automation, the steps after it do not happen. Check the run history after the first real run.
• The action list is fixed. If the action you need is not there, the System node cannot do it. Use a Task node to ask a person instead.
